Ten-year-old Roger savored a bite of his hot fudge sundae as he watched his employee, Bernard, sell newspapers to the congregants streaming out of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, North Dakota. Roger’s burgeoning business afforded him this luxury once in a while. After licking clean his bowl and spoon, Roger crossed the street, rolled his newspaper shed behind St. Mary’s school and walked four blocks to the Mickelson house.

Roger lived with the Mickelsons, but he wasn’t a Mickelson.

This true story of a boy with an unusual childhood begins in the 1930s and travels through time to present day. It is a story of romance, world travel, espionage and spectacular car crashes. It is a real-life example of how your attitude can shape your life.
